Piston Skirt Oiling
(aka Bottom End Piston Cooling)
Almost all factory turbocharged
diesel engines have something called piston skirt oiling which is a basic
use of a fine mist spray of oil on the bottom end of each piston each time
the piston comes down.
If you're unsure of what
I'm talking about you might want to click here to see how
a diesel engine works. The goal of this is to cool each piston
that can generate excess heat due to turbocharging
(though I'd argue that in some situations engine heat is quite a bit more
substantial without a turbo).
Toyota models which have
it are the 3B, 12H-T, and 1HZ. However, my 2H does not have it.
12H-T versions of my engine (factory turbocharged 2H with a different,
direct injected head) have pistion skirt
oilers installed.
