I purchased my turbo off
a Mitsubishi 6DR5 diesel engine that Royal
Rose had installed into his FJ55. The
6DR5 is almost an identical engine to the 2H that was in my truck, same
displacement, similar power curves, almost identical fuel pump, just everything
was reversed, the exhaust was on the passenger side. Royal had installed
the motor into his FJ55 and several months later he began to experience
severe problems due to cracks in the head and pistons, so he pulled the
engine and had an aftermarket turbo charger that would be perfect for my
truck.
The turbo is a RaJay model
which is a common aftermarket company used mostly in industrial applications.
Though it is not waste-gasted it is actually a great fit to the non-piston
bottom cooled HJ60 because it only puts out up 10 psi when pushing it at
this altitude. At average highway speed (65-70 mph) at 2500 rpms
with a custom 2.5" exhaust it puts out about 4-6 lbs of boost.
For recommendations on where
or how to find a turbo for your diesel engine, I would first try local
junk yards. Gasoline turbo chargers make work in some situations
but this is not always the case.
