Doing a Swap Involving a Factory Diesel

You may want to check out this section about "what is it like to own a diesel" which compares USA diesel swaps into Land Cruisers versus factory diesel swaps.

There is not a whole lot of information on this page but it would be recommended to check out each section about each engine to get a comparative perspective.  All Toyota diesel engines that originally came in Land Cruisers are generally more "automotive-like" with higher RPM ranges, and most come in smooth running 6 cyl versions.

As for conversion questions, you want to figure out which transmission is best for you, pay attention to parts availability, and of course plan a swap within your budget. You might also want to check out 3B in a Mini Truck to get a size perspective if you are not going to put it into a Land Cruiser

You may also want to consider a non-Toyota swap mostly for cost purposes.

Generally factory Toyota diesels are "weaker" but offer higher HP ranges and smaller torque ranges.  They generally have the same RPM bands as 2F gas engines and are smooth and easy to daily drive.  With out a turbo you can drive them as easily as a gas engine.
