Toyota 1HZ Diesel
Engine
Picture of the 1HZ stolen
from David Tay's Web
Site. Dave installed a 1HZ into his FJ40.
The 1HZ is considered a very
capable engine, somewhat of a workhorse that is still available and produced
in trucks world wide today. It is a 6 cyl, 12 valve engine.
It is indirect injected but overall very reliable. It is naturally
aspirated but can be aftermarket turbocharged,
both Safari and AXT manufacture aftermarket turbos for it. The 1HZ
engine was never available in North America except for in very rare Canadian
Mine Trucks.
It has roughly the same power,
RPM range, and smoothness of a 2F gas engine. It's specs are 135@4000
HP and 187@2200 Ft/Lbs of torque with a 22:1 fuel:air ratio.
Its commonly seen in front
of H55F transmission, though it is retrofitted to the H151F transmission
as well/. It has the overall has roughly the same size & weight
of a 2F Engine. Because it is 6 cyl it is also very smooth, with
minimal rattle. Most are also 12 Volt.
Acquiring these engines from
non-USA sources is quite possible and not unbelievably expensive, particularly
when compared to attempting to find a 1HD-T.
