Toyota 1HD-T &
1HD-FT Diesel Engines
Last updated June 21,

The 1HD-T and 1HD-FT and
1HD-FTE are also non-USA factory Toyota Diesels, primarily found in 70,
80, and 100 Series Land Cruisers.
They are factory turbo charged,
the 1HD put out approx:
165@3600 HP
268@2000 FT/LBs of Torque.
There are also, more powerful
1HD-FT and 1HD-FTE models. Both a 24 valve yet the 1HD-FT remains mechanical
while the FTE model is electronically controlled. Here are picts
of 1HD-T engines compliments of Robb Lasserman at Raddcruisers.ca
and Greg Bowie who imports Japanese
Cruisers for custers via Canada.
It is also a smooth rever,
with a higher RPM band than many other diesels. The 1HD-T is a 12
Valve, non electronic version. The 1HD-FT is 24 Valves, with electronic
fuel (read: computer) controlled management.
Both are quite expensive
to import to the United States. Most come in 12 Volt except for in
Japan where they are available as both. They share the same bolt
pattern as a USA spec 1FZ 24 Valve gas engine, therefore a H55F 5 speed
will not bolt to them but a H151F will.
Some earlier models experienced
a bottom end problem. You can read about it here: http://www.safari4x4.com.au/80scool/tech/td_bearings.html
